WebCT Computer Requirements

WebCT is a Web-based tool, so basically what you will need to access your WebCT course is a computer capable of connecting to the Internet, and capable of running a supported Web browser (listed below).

PC

Minimum System Requirements Recommended System Requirements
  • PC with a 486 or higher processor
  • Windows 95/ 98/ Me/ NT/ 2000/ XP
  • 32 MB RAM
  • 28.8k Internet connection or faster
  • Pentium class PC with 400 MHz or higher processor
  • Windows 98/ Me/ NT/ 2000/ XP
  • 64 to 128 MB RAM
  • 56k Internet connection or faster

Note: Computers at the minimum system requirements will access the course much slower than newer, faster computers. Also, older machines may have difficulty displaying online multimedia and video. Contact your instructor if you have questions.

Macintosh

To access WebCT with both browsers you will want to make sure you have java enabled and your browser cache to set to always reload. Read the login QuickStart Sheet for instructions on configuring your browser (pdf file).

Plug-ins and Players

Plug-ins and players are small (usually free) programs that can be downloaded to your computer and add functionality to your Web browsers. It is possible to access WebCT without any additional plug-ins or players, but if your instructor is using certain types of multimedia, audio, or video content, you may need to download these in order to view the content properly. Even though it depends on the course, the popular plug-ins/players are listed below.
